LDP adds electricity to Spanish wholesale stores

Lumsden Design Partnership will go on site in Madrid next month to install the first retail outlet to be launched by Spanish electrical wholesaler Ramos Sierra.

Creative concepts have been signed off for a 3000m2, Ikea-style retail space, backed by 1ha of warehousing. The store is due to open in February next year.

The company, which has traditionally focused on trade buyers, is now aiming to cater for the average consumer.

‘At present, the warehouses that people troop into are chaotic,’ Lumsden explains.

The new format will emphasise ‘self-selection’ much like a ‘gigantic supermarket’, though staff will be on hand to advise on products, he adds.

LDP has studied customer flow and created ‘easy to find’ signage that indicates various zones within the store. This ‘bold and simple’ style has filtered down to information graphics and merchandising.

Senior designer Karen Rodden is heading the creative team and LDP won the work last month without a pitch.
