Time to see graduates get a foot in the design door

Where do those two years experience that the job advertisements ask of graduates come from?

From a design consultancy you say. Well, I’ve tried that and if it really worked then I wouldn’t be writing this. All the groups I’ve visited are helpful and pleasant, yet it seems none are willing to put their neck on the line and give us small fish a work experience placement.

Sure, if I was asking for a proper wage, or if I had a shockingly bad portfolio then, yes, turn me down. But what has happened to this idea of bringing new talent in, letting them work in your studio making tea, scanning images, looking over your shoulder, just to gain some of that invaluable experience?

Soon few people will be able to answer these job ads. So next time a design graduate gets in contact please give them a chance.
