Metro promotes Bath orchestra

Metro Design has created posters, flyers and programmes for Bath Philharmonia’s autumn concert season.

The Bath-based group was approached by the orchestra to create marketing material. The work was undertaken without a fee.

‘We were given a pretty free creative reign and decided to take the work in a new direction,’ says Metro creative director Alex Whitfield. The design work reflects the contrasting nature of the music in the concerts, from the baroque music of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to Schoenberg’s 20th century work, Verklärte Nacht.

Whitfield’s penchant for Dutch poster design and the budget for the project dictated a two-colour design process, says Whitfield. ‘Around Amsterdam there are several art organisations operating with no budget, so they have a tradition of these kinds of [pared-down] posters,’ says Whitfield.

It is the first time Bath Philharmonia, a registered charity, has employed the services of a design consultancy.
