A Taiwanese manufacturer is developing a portable CD-ROM video disc player called Video Disc Baby.

Well Design in The Netherlands is handling product and strategic design, working on branding, graphics and point-of-sale material as well as the design of the machine’s case.

Product graphics for the Asian market will be “shinier” than those for worldwide distribution, says Well Design manager of strategic design Hans Lormans. The consultancy had no input in naming the product.

Well Design effectively has two clients, as all its work has to be cleared with pop star Michael Jackson, who has agreed to promote the machine.

Manufacturer Nien Mate is launching Video Disc Baby, which will look like a big Walkman, later this year.

Well Design, formerly known as Van Diuk Eger Associates, has 45 staff and offices in The Netherlands, Germany and Taiwan.
