Acclaimed photographer Wolfgang Tillmans presented Ania Dabrowska with the first prize in this year’s Observer Hodge Photographic Award for her portfolio ‘Freedom is a big word: South Africa 2003’ (pictured). Which is more than he did with the runners up. The student winners in particular were absent ‘on shoots’ and each sent along a bemused friend to collect their gongs. It wouldn’t happen at the Oscars.
