Organisers of the first Perrier-Jouët Selfridges Design Prize have shortlisted five designers it believes have made a “significant contribution to design”. The candidates are Ron Arad, Tom Dixon, Dunne & Raby, Jasper Morrison and Marc Newson.

The five will now be invited to create an installation for display in Selfridges’ windows, which will be unveiled on 8 February. Final judging by Christopher Frayling takes place on 5 March.

The concept of holding an exhibition in a retail environment rather than a gallery reflects the relevance of contemporary design in everyday life, according to a statement from the organisers.

The winner will receive a prize of £20,000 and a year’s supply of free champagne.
