Baffling Gallic greeting from Brand Company

We know our cross-channel brothers and sisters are an hour ahead, but we didn’t know they are a month behind.

We at Design Week received a card from the president of French consultancy The Brand Company last week, wishing us a handwritten belated Happy New Year. The printed greeting, however, left us a touch bewildered. It read simply ‘2002’ and ‘Good’.

Inverting the card for a message hidden in the matching typography was fruitless, leaving us suspecting its designers were trying to reflect the symmetry of ‘2002’ in the word ‘Good’. But then it would read ‘Dood’ or ‘Goog’.

Aaah, le French sense of style, eh?
