Konditor & Cook, the London-based cake and patisserie chain, is opening its first ‘cocktails and cakes’ café bar in Soho this week.

HMKM has developed the café’s identity, graphics and merchandising material. Designer Suzy Hoodless has drawn up the interiors. The café is located in the Curzon cinema on Shaftesbury Avenue.

The interiors feature lacquer-top tables, pendent lights and a lounge area. The colour palette draws on the Konditor & Cook aubergine corporate design.

‘We wanted to create something with a bar and lounge feeling at night so that it is accessible for everyone,’ says Gerhard Jenne, proprietor at Konditor & Cook.

Colin Melia, head of graphics at HMKM, says the space is ‘more glamour than a Starbucks and less frenetic than a bar’.

If successful, the format may be rolled out to other London locations such as the Southbank, adds Jenne.

Konditer & Cook currently has three shops located in London. The company set up in 1993.
