Verizon is hacked off
Forward-thinking US telecoms giant Verizon recently hired top-brass lawyers to register as many Internet domain names based on its name as possible to deter enterprising cybersquatters.
At $70 (£49) a shot, the creative legal eagles spent nearly $50 000 (£35 000) to buy the rights to 706 less than complimentary names, such as verizonstinks.com, verizonblows.com and overtheverizon.com.
Unfortunately for the company, a hackers’ magazine put its money on a few it had overlooked, including verizonreallysucks.com. Who says lawyers are overpaid?
