Smith moves to Newlands

Industrial designer Brian Smith is leaving PDD in March, after more than 20 years, to become managing director of hi-tech firm Newlands Scientific.

Smith, who was design director, was one of the consultancy’s first recruits. He is moving to Yorkshire company Newlands, where he has been a non executive director since last July.

Newlands specialises in magnetostrictive technology, which roughly translates as creating solid states that can change shape in seconds. Its applications include audio in mobile phones and loud speakers, medical equipment and industrial pumps.

The company is starting to work on applications for fmcg products.
