Sports channel goes Turquoise

Television branding specialist, Turquoise, has developed the on-screen identity and graphics for Belgian sports channel Sporza, which launched last week.

The sports-only station is the production of VRT, a public service broadcaster for the Flanders region. A three-month trial for the station is required due to VRT’s reliance on public funding. After the trial, Sporza intends to obtain a permanent broadcast licence.

‘The brief was to create the whole identity for the standalone sports channel,’ says Turquoise account manager Linda Garcia. ‘We built on the Flanders theme and in the idents we concentrated on the emotion of sports fans rather than the sports themselves, which weren’t shown.’

Turquoise created 11 idents and provided the colour palette and graphics for the station’s studio set designs.

Former Lambie Nairn managing director Sharon Wheeler founded Turquoise earlier this year. The consultancy won the Sporza contract two months ago, following a five-way pitch.
