EVEN after 20 years they all still fancied Laura.

This group of graphic designers were students at what was St Martin’s in 1975, and last week was their first sighting of each other for nigh on 15 years. DW’s group art director Colin McHenry, apprehensive about it, hovered shaking on the doorstep. “I had this fear that everyone would be frightfully competitive”.

But our Col discovered that “inside no-one had really changed”. Outside, however, some had “considerably changed shape” and several chaps had “severe wide partings” in their hairstyles. Illustrator Laura Knight (bottom centre) was still the object of everyone’s desire and Bird Man Dave Wright, who only ever wanted to draw birds (the feathered kind) has made a living out of illustrating ornithology books. Francis Bowyer (far left), however, had simply turned into Imran Khan. “Don’t fear reunions – they’re brilliant,” recommends McHenry.
