D&AD pencil security needs sharpening

British Design & Art Direction is appealing for witnesses, after the disappearance of one of its giant D&AD yellow pencils at last month’s awards ceremony at Olympia.

The two pencils are made of tin and are about 2m tall and 1m wide. ‘They are extremely cumbersome and unwieldy to move about and we always have to use a massive trolley,’ says spokeswoman Lisa Hirst.

It is not the first time the organisation has fallen victim to pencil pirates. Several years ago a couple of D&AD party revellers at the Grosvenor House event tried to roll one of the pencils down Park Lane… though they didn’t get very far.

If you have any further information, please contact D&AD immediately.
