Dotcoms have the right idea about interiors

With the high profile interior design schemes that have accompanied the high profile dotcom company launches, these companies have realised that they have been wasteful with their capital in fitting out their offices.

While in a few cases this may be true, the general approach being taken by dotcoms in offering a highly creative environment to their staff is an exciting development. Companies finally appreciate the impact that effective design can have in drawing in, retaining and motivating staff.

I hope that the recent publicity surrounding the demise of some dotcom companies does not damage the efforts that have been made by those companies in trying to redefine the design of the business environment.

Quantifying the spend on a business environment is a very difficult exercise and with a short fall of some 33 000 IT specialists over the next four years, it will be interesting to see if the companies that have made the right investment are actually the ones that retain the staff and make a profit.
