One of the Design Museum’s educational initiatives involves taking mini-exhibitions of design icons around schools. Sponsored by retailer Marks & Spencer, the exhibitions are arranged on a regional basis.

Following local press coverage asking for suggestions for the North East exhibition, it has to be wondered if residents are playing up to their own stereotypes.

They chose a Newcastle Brown Ale bottle, the traditional stotty cake and a range of Thorn Lighting security products. Luckily, the choices weren’t all so predictable: the Barbour wax jacket and a new Black & Decker power tool are also included.
