The Design Museum has opened its Designers in Residence programme for 2017, inviting applicants to respond to the theme of “Support”.

The annual competition is open to “new and emerging design talent”. This includes designers who have graduated from university within the last five years, and who have been working in a design or architecture practice for at least a year.

Four designers from different disciplines will be chosen to work within the new Design Museum’s studio, both independently and together to exchange ideas.

Applicants are asked to respond to “Support” in a “structural, spatial or social” way, and demonstrate a “thorough understanding of the audience or user”.

The Design Museum says it is looking for applicants who “demonstrate originality” through a new way of thinking, doing or making, or use of technology. It also says the winners will show awareness of economic, ethical and social issues surrounding design.

The deadline for applications is 9am on 6 February 2017. Designers must provide a completed application form, and a visual presentation or images of their proposal. For more information and to access the application form, head to the Design Museum’s site.

Hello, I graduated last Summer and am currently looking to find my way in the creative industry. I consider myself a very multi-disciplinary designer and have recently finished a 3 month internship at Emperor in London. I have learnt a lot about how a studio works and I want to keep learning and developing my skills by interning at different studios. I am becoming more and more interested in Branding/identity work and feel this would be an amazing place to learn more and get some experience.
Hopefully we’ll be in touch soon, Thanks a lot.
