Builders, architects… get wise and use

I wholeheartedly agree with Hugh Pearman’s article The Size of the matter (Private View, DW 12 November), that modern housing does not make full use of space.

The spec built houses of the 20th and 21st centuries illustrated by Louis Hellman show virtually no sign of change. This lack of progress in use of space is further emphasised when you consider how the occupants of houses have changed in size and shape over a 100 year period.

It is vital that the characteristics and needs of the occupants are accommodated. I suggest that builders and architects seek the knowledge and expertise of ergonomists to optimise space.
