Design Bridge labels Carling

Carling Black Label, Britain’s best selling beer, has a new look created by Design Bridge. The consultancy is also believed to have designed packaging for the future national launch of a premium beer, Carling Premier.

The Carling Black Label cans, bottles and countermounts were launched yesterday.

This is Design Bridge’s first job for Carling. The consultancy won a paid competitive pitch for the job against Design House and Lewis Moberly, which are on the Carling roster. Design Bridge has now joined the roster.

The red, black and white colours remain, though the roundel logo is replaced by a rectangle.”We’ve emphasised its alcoholic strength to move it away from other standard lagers,” says Design Bridge creative director Rod Petrie, describing the previous design as “a bit lightweight”.

The countermount – previously an ice block – is now a crystal.

Carling Premier is now market-testing and may be ready for a roll-out in three months’ time. Neither Carling nor Design Bridge would say if the consultancy has designed Carling Premier.
