The ̼4.5m National Glass Centre for Sunderland Рcurrently on the drawing board at Gollifer Associates Рis applying for ̼2.85m extra funding from the National Lottery.

This would pay for a 139m2 gallery which the architects could add to the design. “The gallery would be the icing on the cake, the scheme will go ahead anyway,” says the centre’s spokesman Philip Round. “We decided to ask the Arts Council to fund a gallery for exhibitions of contemporary glasswork”. London-based Gollifer Associates won a Europe-wide competition against 86 other architects to design the centre.
