Reports of Sir Terence Conran’s wishes to serve soup to London’s homeless from a site near Battersea Power Station look unlikely to be replicated at Mezzo, his swish Soho eaterie. Requests from some of our unfortunate friends for a free soup supper there on Thursday evening were met with the suggestion that they call head office, where staff may have more information on any free soup schemes. ‘It wouldn’t be Mezzo’ offering the service, said the staff. ‘But it could be other restaurants in the group,’ they added politely.
