A strategic alliance between the two airlines was cleared by the European Commission last week. It will now be considered by US authorities.

A BA spokesman says the only pressure which would cause a change in the livery would be from consumers, and that 78 per cent of US consumers like the then Newell and Sorrell-designed image.
