Allies bags brochure work for de Lima

Allies has designed a tactile brochure to showcase the latest collection of leather handbags created by Brazilian designer-craftsman Nivaldo de Lima.

The brochures are numbered and made from natural-looking, lightweight board, with a number of them further bound in leather. They all bear Nivaldo’s newly revamped branding, also designed by Allies, which consists of a hand-drawn, stylised bull.

Within the brochure, moody, urban product shots are interspersed with romantic and nostalgic snaps, as well as a map section tracing the roots of the Mallorca-based company and its founders.

According to Allies graphic designer Anju Kathuria, the design of the brochure reflects the nature of Nivaldo’s products. ‘It’s natural, it’s down-to-earth, it’s not particularly flash, although it has got a nice high-end feel to it,’ she says.

The loose leaves of the catalogue are bound with a leather thong tied through the centre of the book. ‘The leather that de Lima uses is so wonderful to touch, we wanted to make the brochure wonderful to touch as well, which is why we incorporated the leather in the binding,’ says Kathuria.

The brochure will go out to fashion magazines and high-end boutiques with the aim of broadening distribution of the bags, which currently sell through mail order and via a relatively small number of retailers.
