Cox named as UK design ‘champion’

In the week that saw the first meeting of the Cox Review implementation team – Sir George Cox, Sir Terence Conran, Nicholas Serota, Lord Foster, David Kester, Christopher Frayling and Alan Clark – the Department of Culture, Media and Sport has named Cox as one of two design ‘champions’ to lead its Creative Economy Programme. The second champion will be imminently named.

Announced by Cultural Industries and Tourism minister James Purnell last November, the CEP will address issues that cut across disciplines, such as education and continuing professional development.

Purnell says the Cox Review, published last year, ‘took the view that the UK has world-class creative industries’.

The CEP will deliver recommendations to ensure this later this year.
