Lloyd Northover is advising on the brand identity and strategy for Cumbria’s first university, the University of Cumbria.

The university has been formed following the merger of two local higher education organisations in the region, St Martin’s College and the Cumbria Institute of the Arts.

The consultancy has been briefed to support the selection of an institutional title and help with the inital development of brand identity for the university. It is also tasked with providing guidance on the development and implementation of the brand-related elements of the marketing strategy to help launch and promote the new university. Lloyd Northover was appointed to the project in September following a pitch.

Lloyd Northover is in the throes of an ‘intensive’ consultation process, according to director Jim Bodoh. ‘We are working with the constituent institutions of the university to develop their name, brand platform and create a detailed marketing communications strategy,’ he says.

The University of Cumbria will consist of multiple campuses with headquarters located in Carlisle. It will open in September 2007.
