Rudge confirms tie-up with MacDonald
100% Design show director Peter Massey is to assume control of 100% Design as founder Ian Rudge (pictured) steps down to establish a breakaway consultancy with 100% East founder Jimmy MacDonald.
Rudge this week confirmed the move, revealed by Design Week (DW 2 November). Full details of the venture, such as the name of the consultancy and its first event, have yet to emerge. MacDonald denies that one brand name connected with the initiative – Tent – is being considered.
100% East looks set to be axed from the 100% Design portfolio.
MacDonald and Rudge plan to create the new event as a design-led fair, which will take place during London’s design festivities in September 2007 at the Old Truman Brewery, the former 100% East venue.
Rudge will continue to act as a consultant to Reed Exhibitions, advising on 100% Design and associated events. MacDonald has quit 100% Design.
Their new event will include a broader range of designers and have a flexible format enabling it to travel. MacDonald says he intends to establish other design-related events through the consultancy in the future.
