UK duo give creative direction to Turin ‘design capital’ event

The Bureau of European Design Associations chief executive Michael Thomson and Little Dipper director Christine Losecaat will provide the creative direction for an international design conference and exhibition in Turin, the first ‘world design capital’.

Appointed by the Torino World Design Capital 2008 team last December, Losecaat and Thomson will be working on the International Design Casa exhibitions and the International Design Policy Conference.

The two-day international design conference, entitled Shaping the Global Design Agenda, will begin on 6 November and will include a line-up of speakers and panel members drawn from governments, industry and design consultancies worldwide.

Losecaat says she has a wish list of people she wants to speak at the event, but cannot disclose details yet. ‘We are inviting a real mix of countries to participate and hope to include between six and 12 exhibitions, each focusing on an individual area such as France and Eastern Europe,’ she says.

Negotiations concerning potential venues to display each country’s designs are ongoing, she adds.

The World Design Capital is a project of the International Design Alliance, set up by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design and the International Council of Graphic Design Associations.

The conference runs from 6-7 November, while Design Casa takes place from 6-13 November. For more information, visit www.torinoworlddesigncapital.it
