Amalgam style fits for DAKS Simpson store

Design collective Amalgam is designing interiors and signage for DAKS Simpson Group’s new two-floor flagship store in London’s Old Bond Street, which opens next month.

Offering full mens’, ladies’ and accessory collections, interiors of the 7500m² site will feature Italian limestone floors, Irish wool carpets and bespoke elements in glass, satin stainless steel, leather and lacquer finishes.

The ground floor will house the womenswear collection and includes a 6m high leather panelled wall, while the first of a series of specially-commissioned sculptures will be featured at the launch, designed by Swedish artist Lars Neilsen.

Leading up to the menswear collection on the first floor will be a steel, glass and stone staircase, backed by a 6m x 6m glass screen that will feature commissioned art fabric by textile designer Michelle Oberdieck.

In addition to clothing for men on the upper floor, there will be an area celebrating the DAKS heritage and design archive and a trade showroom with classic Charles Eames furniture, that will host fashion launches.

Amalgam consultant Mark Simpson, who is working closely on the project with DAKS design executive Peter Southgate, says: “The store will be cool, classic and contemporary with a neutral colour palette, luxurious materials and richly upholstered furnishings, including Citterio design seating by B&B Italian in Spinneybeck leather.”
