Interbrand buys Canadian group

The Interbrand Group is set to acquire Toronto design consultancy Tudhope Associates, Interbrand’s first Canadian operation.

Tudhope Associates, a 50-strong branding consultancy, was formed in 1984 by brothers Bev and Ian Tudhope.

The new group, which is being renamed Interbrand Tudhope, aims to dominate the rapidly expanding Canadian branding and design market, according to Interbrand Group chief executive officer, Chuck Brymer.

“Interbrand Tudhope is firmly positioned to take full advantage of the future growth and development of the Canadian marketplace. We view this merger as a significant step in growing our presence in Canada and increasing our ability to service both national and multinational clients doing business in Canada,” says Brymer.

“Our partnership with Interbrand dramatically increases our ability to offer a wider range of strategic consulting and creative design services to our clients, as well as provide us with critical mass in all areas in which Interbrand conducts business,” says Tudhope founder Bev Tudhope, who becomes co-chief executive of the new company.

Tudhope says the practical organisation of the company will not change greatly, but that the input of the Omnicom network will help the group reach a global standing. “What is really exciting for us is that there are no other really global design players here,” he says.

The group plans to add brand valuation, name development and e-business work to its portfolio, Tudhope adds. This will be in addition to its current offer of corporate, consumer, interactive and environmental design services.
