Starbucks aims to fit in with its Covent Garden neighbours

Starbucks is to open a new branch in London’s Neal Street in Covent Garden, with in-house designed interiors that aim to ’create a local feel’.

Thom Breslin, director of design for Starbucks UK, says, ’Covent Garden is a melting pot of different people. The window opens up concertina-style, referencing the historical mixing of people there.’

Breslin says that the store’s interiors will be ’very simple’, retaining the Georgian building’s original flooring and brickwork, which has been exposed and sandblasted.

He adds, ’All the shops on Neal Street take their visual cues from Neal’s Yard – each has a different colour. The identity on the outside will be smaller, as none of the other brands in the area are shouting.’

The store opens on 26 February.
