Stand up if you’re impressed with Begg’s integration

Did Commission for Integrated Transport chairman David Begg realise where he was when he stood up to reply to the Design Council’s transport ‘blueprint’ last week?

There were shocked looks as he launched into an after dinner speech-cum-stand-up routine. Begg began by recounting – to murmurs of sympathy – how he’d been repeatedly heckled by Design Agenda’s Nico MacDonald for his alleged hostility to car owners.

Then he recalled his efforts while at British Rail to dissuade guard Jock Dempster from addressing passengers ‘like the MC at the miners’ club in Kirkcaldy’.

We expect to see Begg up for a Perrier at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
