I read with interest ‘Design Council kicks off drive to promote UK design overseas’, on which DW editor Lynda Relph-Knight duly commented that a joined-up approach is vital for the council to achieve its aims (DW 3 July). I recommend that the Design Council takes a closer look at Design Leicestershire. It would be beneficial to talk to the groups that championed this project because it is the involvement of the private-sector individuals that ensured joined-up thinking between the regional development agency, UK Trade and Investment and universities. This was critical to its formation and gaining £250 000 of funding from the RDA.
