The concept of the drive-through has been extended to airport check-in in what is believed to be a world first.

The Drive-Thru is Heathrow Terminal 3’s latest innovation, designed by PSD Associates for Virgin Atlantic.

Geared towards the upper class passenger who uses Virgin’s complimentary chauffeur service, the idea is a check-in procedure without the passenger having to leave the car.

The car stops at the Virgin Drive-Thru, baggage is off-loaded, the passenger receives travel documents and is driven up to the departure level.

PSD interior designer Marian Kelly created a metallic steel exterior with a plane’s tail fin and a charcoal grey interior with stainless steel fittings.

The Drive-Thru accommodates three cars at a time, with a predicted three-minute turnaround.
