This year’s Milan Furniture Fair will have its own version of the Betty Ford Clinic.

A group of artists and designers based at the Royal College of Art are opening the Milan office of the Department for the Registration and Rehabilitation of Discarded Furniture.

The department gathers furniture found lying around Milan. It devises a plan for each piece that will “strip it of the traces of its former life”, implements “treatment” and “returns it to a useful life”.

The exhibition, running from 19 to 22 April, will demonstrate the outfit’s working process. Chairs get a special ten-step plan.
