Articulating the art of articulation

“His toothbrush needs to be thrown away – mine’s much better.” Maddi Nicholson, one half of an artistic Cumbrian couple, is bound to spark off a domestic with this statement.

She and partner Stuart Bastik focus on “the process of brushing your teeth together” as a symbol of coupledom.

Their homely secrets will be blown up and affixed to six lorries, which will trundle around the country from mid-May until October. This is a venture called Art on Wheels funded by Visual Arts UK and T Brady & Son Transport.

One lorry features Stuart’s stomach and Maddi’s head.

“I’ve got the biggest ego in the world so I’m delighted my head’s appearing,” she says.

Does Stuart have the biggest stomach in the world? “He is a bit portly,” admits his loved one.
