Restaurateur targets Paris

Restaurant mogul Oliver Peyton hopes to open “more than one” new restaurant in London in early 1997 and is “discussing” design plans with Australian interior designer Marc Newson.

Peyton is the proprietor of London restaurants Coast and The Atlantic Bar and Grill. Newson designed interiors for Coast (DW 9 June 1995).

“We have talked to Marc about future projects, but there is nothing definite. Oliver is interested in working with different designers, but none have challenged Marc’s work at Coast so far,” says a spokeswoman for Peyton.

She confirms press reports that Peyton is in negotiations to open a restaurant in Paris, but says “the time is not right yet, we are concentrating on business in this country”. The reports also suggest Sir Terence Conran is considering Paris for his next restaurant. But a spokeswoman says Conran has “no firm plans”.

Meanwhile, Conran’s consultancy CD Partnership this week starts designing a new restaurant and Conran Shop for a hotel project in Glasgow.

Intercontinental Hotels has appointed architect Hanscomb Davies to design the hotel. CDP director Paul Zara says the 500m2 restaurant, which may be called Link, is set to open in late 1997.
