Weymouth College:Learning for life

WEYMOUTH COLLEGE IDENTITY

Since the UK’s education sector isn’t exactly awash with money, Walker Izard’s new identity for Weymouth College had to be simple and easy to implement.

Given the college’s motto – ‘Learning for Life’ – the consultancy was prompted to look for a living image to represent the higher education college.

Swans, which apparently signify positive attributes such as quality and freedom, fought their way up the pecking order because of the famous Abbotsbury swan sanctuary just outside the town.

So the swan emerged as a charcoaldrawn graphic device in the shape of a W. Walker Izard believes the identity works well in black and white, positive and negative, and at any size.

It is forgiving of poor printing and rough stock and, as Walker Izard’s Tim Walker puts it, ‘should therefore look good even when reproduced in local newspapers’.

The new identity is being launched at the end of the month and the London consultancy is currently drawing up the implementation guidelines.
