Milan Furniture Fair has a feeling of emptiness

What would you do with an empty stand at the high-profile Milan Furniture Fair fringe event, SaloneSatellite?

Chances are you wouldn’t furnish it with just a fire extinguisher, a vase crammed with wilting tulips and an empty Coke can as this year’s organisers chose to do.

The stand looked more than a little forlorn, but not half as sad as its neighbour on the end of the row – the unfortunately named Happy Finish Design from Australia.

Maybe we haven’t appreciated that the empty stand was a post-post-modern installation. The sort of thing Tracey Emin could net a fortune from.
