Blue Marlin plans collaboration

Graphics consultancy Blue Marlin and industrial design consultancy Kinneir Dufort are planning to launch a joint venture in the new year.

The new consultancy, KM3D: Physical Engineering for Brands, will be based in Bristol. It will be headed by Blue Marlin planning director Simon Jones and creative director David Hodgson, with Kinneir Dufort managing director Jim Orkney and design director Craig Wightman.

“Each company will continue to trade independently with its own base of clients,” says Jones.

“We’re looking to put together our brand of marketing experience with Kinneir Dufort’s knowledge of material structures, project management and its very strong in-house modelling facility. It has all the CAD equipment,” he adds.

The two companies have previously collaborated successfully on a number of projects.

“Our view is that structure is where brand development will go; more and more attention is going to be paid to that,” says Jones.

Prior to its official launch the consultancy is pitching for several new clients and aims to reveal further plans in mid-January.
