Westfield reviews Stratford art

Mall developer Westfield is dissatisfied with the results of the public art commissioning process for its Stratford City site, Design Week understands.

A source close to the developer revealed that ’the process did not come up with what [it] was looking for’, and that it is ’having a rethink’.

There are two art tenders in the public domain. The 2008 tender document for one of them asks for proposals to reference ’the creativity and cultural diversity of the area through the theme “Connecting Cultures”’. Heatherwick Studio and Jason Bruges Studio are understood to have submitted entries to Westfield.

Westfield declined to confirm there are any problems. A spokeswoman says, ’We have gone out with two tenders, the results of which have been very pleasing, and we are currently working through those before announcing the final designs.’
