Fosters considers its future options

Senior partners of the design team at architect Foster and Partners could be offered a stake in the business, as founder and chairman Lord Foster appoints bankers to inspect options for the group’s future.

For many years, the architect has operated its own industrial design team within the practice, led by John Small. Now, Catalyst Investment, the corporate finance boutique, is working on options for the disposal of the business, which has designed structures such as London’s Swiss Re building, the new Wembley Stadium and the Millennium Bridge.

A spokesman for the practice explains that senior staff are likely to benefit from any deal. One aim is to spread the equity ownership around the practice, involving the partners taking a stake, he says. Other options are to bring in outside investment or even a full sale of the business.
