Design Skills consultation is ‘huge task’

Key design figures have acknowledged the size of the task faced in acting on industry views of the future of British design. These opinions will be gathered in a consultation launched by the Design Council and Creative & Cultural Skills last week (DW 11 May).

Paul Priestman, chairman of the Design Skills Advisory Panel, says the brief is challenging to answer because it is ‘so broad’, but claims the Government’s willingness to listen is a valuable opportunity. ‘This is the time to comment because we’ve been asked. The task will be to bring everyone together,’ he says.

Design Council campaign leader for Design Skills Lesley Morris acknowledges that there are different views within the panel over proposals for international accreditation, but says, ‘Everything is up for grabs. We are not proposing this or that model.’
