Philip Watts Design takes the humble kebab shop to another level

Nottingham design consultancy Philip Watts Design has created what it claims is the UK’s first “designer” kebab shop.

Philip Watts was appointed by local client the Royal Clay Oven in June, to redesign its kebab shop interiors.

In-house-designed cast aluminium furniture and stainless steel fittings have been used, with low-level illumination employed to create an environment where “it is hard to imagine you’re going to be walking out with a kebab”.

The group sought to maximise the sense of space in the small interior with bold lines and extensive use of reflective finishes on many of the interior walls.

“The owner wanted to change the public’s perception of the humble kebab completely,” says consultancy director Philip Watts. There are plans to roll out further branches around the UK.

“We have developed a fairly strong brand image for the Royal Clay Oven. It is a simple, effective identity,” adds Watts.
