Tell me what Birmingham is – and create a brand for it

In response to your Voxpop question last week about which city needs to be rebranded (DW 11 November), it has to be Birmingham.

The city centre has gone through an incredible regeneration – and the owners of Selfridges should be awarded the freedom of the city for giving the place a decent landmark, but what is Birmingham?

A lacklustre attempt at branding was made in 2003, with a rather nondescript, non-memorable ’logo’. The city needs to define what it is, and communicate that internally and externally.

The UK’s second city is now ripe for a new offering to reflect its physical revitalisation.
