TownPages lines up CDG for kiosk

US interactive kiosk group TownPages has appointed Conran Design Group to help it launch 3500 touchscreen booths across the UK.

The kiosks will offer a wide range of local community information and serve as a national and international database for 1300 UK towns and cities. However, they will not provide open access to the Internet. The kiosks will be free to access.

CDG is creating an identity for the system, which will be applied to screen formats and printed media. Meanwhile the on-screen design of the project is being handled in-house at TownPages in Alton, Hampshire.

“TownPages’ aim is to become the definitive portal for people wanting to find out about local, national and international information, goods and services – from ordering tickets for the cinema or theatre to shopping the world,” says a TownPages spokesman.

Test sites in Winchester are already running, but will be rebranded with the new identity after the relaunch in October, says CDG business development director Peers de Trense.
