LivingWell’s interiors toned up by Era Studio

Era Studio has created an interior concept for health club network LivingWell, which has the potential to roll out across the company’s UK estate of 81 sites.

The scheme, currently being trialled at LivingWell’s Brindleyplace Premier site in Birmingham, encompasses gym and reception areas and aims to replace its ‘high energy’ look with a more holistic approach, says project director Christine Harvey.

The exercise space features blue, grey and red zones and individual pendant lighting to provide areas of ‘calm and [areas of] activity’. Graphics, by photographer TJ Harvey, feature colour-washed images of the health club’s members in action.

‘The idea was to come up with a new approach, moving away from the 1980s’ powerhouse gym style’, explains Harvey. ‘We’re trying to pull [LivingWell] into more of a private members club or spa feel.’

Era Studio was awarded the work in August 2003 without a pitch. Harvey and senior designer Gareth Hardy were creative leads on the project.
