British Gas identity follows in broker’s footsteps

Following the goldfish saga, British Gas has raised corporate image controversy once again, with the unveiling of a new logo. But so far the hapless utility provider would appear to be avoiding any fresh litigation.

Staff at London broker Branston & Gothard were said to be surprised when they noticed the similarity between the British Gas BG logo (right) and their own (left), which was created by graphic design group Root 2 two years ago. But they are taking it in good spirits, and no action is planned.

In fact, the resemblance has caused much amusement. A Branston & Gothard staff member has been heard to say that British Gas (whose logo was by Uffindell & West) had probably paid “half a million quid for someone to do it. We could have done it for nothing”.
