Designers in Europe are underwhelmed by the European Monetary Institute’s winning euro banknotes, designed by Robert Kalina, head graphic designer at the Austrian National Bank.

Kalina’s designs reflect the EMI’s theme of ‘ages and styles of Europe’ on the seven notes.

Chartered Society of Designers president Nick Jenkins slams the designs for being ‘unbelievably bland and safe’.
