Event driving force behind museum

Event Communications is believed to have won the contract to refurbish The Glasgow Transport Museum, as it moves from its existing location to a purposebuilt venue.

The win is likely to be confirmed next week, with Event beginning work in the New Year.

The group pitched with architect Pringle Richards Sharratt for the work against two other consortiums – Land Design Studio and Wilkinson Eyre and Casson Mann and Lord International.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow Transport Museum suggests Event will be appointed but was unavailable for further comment as Design Week went to press.

The project focuses on creation of a master plan and strategy for the museum’s move to its new location. Event creative director Cel Phelan says that she has yet to be contacted by the client, but describes the project as a ‘huge piece of work’.

‘The museum really is first class, and it puts the London Transport Museum in the shade,’ she explains.

‘Unfortunately, the present building is not good from a conservation perspective, so the museum is being moved to a big, new development in the middle of a commercial and residential development next to the Clyde.’
