Sorrell reviews Dome content

Design Council chairman John Sorrell is one of 11 people appointed by the New Millennium Experience Company to oversee development of exhibitions at the Greenwich Dome.

He and the other ten members of the creative review group will meet regularly, “to advise on the coherence, quality, entertainment and educational potential of the design proposals,” says an NMEC spokesman.

Architect Lord Rogers and Mike Davies, Millennium project director at Richard Rogers Partnership, are also part of the group.

Meanwhile, the NMEC and BT have denied press reports that the telecommunications group is preparing to pull 12m of sponsorship because of confusion over the Dome’s content.

The NMEC has, however, confirmed plans for a giant human figure inside the Dome, though denies that its sex has been decided. “The brief is for an androgynous figure,” says an NMEC spokeswoman.

Further details of the Dome’s contents are expected next week.

The NMEC confirms that rock event stage designer Mark Fisher is in discussions over contract issues though he has not been officially appointed to develop a stage show for the celebrations.
