Opinion split over position of Chopper’s gear lever
In response to Alan Clarke’s letter concerning the repositioned gear shift on the new Raleigh Chopper (DW 5 February), I can only assume that as a child he never had the misfortune that myself and hundreds of other kids had.

On accidentally squeezing the front brakes instead of the rear there was a tendency to slide forward along the seat and straight on to the dangerously positioned gear lever – an eye-watering experience.
Well done to Raleigh for this design change.
